As a tattoo shop, we see a lot of “tough” men trying to hide their fear of the pointy buzzy needle. Unfortunately, sometimes that’s just what men do — hide their fear. But there seems to be one area where too many men give into their fear and don’t do what has to be done — get their prostate checked. It seems like you’re more likely to get a tattoo on your butt, than to let a doctor look at it once a year.
The fact is nobody likes the rubber glove intrusion, but your life really does depend on it. Prostate cancer is the leading cancer among Canadian men. An estimated 24,000 men were diagnosed with the disease last year, and sadly around 4,000 didn’t make it through.
But there is hope. The death rate has been declining by almost 4% per year. With increased awareness thanks to events like Movember, we’re hoping to see that number increase dramatically.
Here at Canadian Ink, we’re doing our part to increase awareness, and encourage the men in our lives to live through the one finger foray. On June 21 as part of our Fabulous Fathers and Fundraisers campaign, we will be hosting a BBQ with all the proceeds going to Prostate Cancer Canada.
There will be lots going on with food, fun, and money being raised for a good cause. Canadian Ink cares about our community, the fathers in our lives, and men’s health. We can’t think of a better to to celebrate all the fathers out there than to do our best to keep them around (and hopefully get them tattooed).
So come on out and have some fun on the 21st. But if you can’t — consider donating to Prostate Cancer Canada anyway. Do it in your dad’s name and call it a gift. (Saves you from leaving the house.)DONATE
